Registration will be open during Colombo JS Meetup

What is cmbHack.js?

Imagine a seething, vibrant group of coders, designers, entrepreneurs frantically sketching out concepts, typing up code, slapping together interfaces. Imagine award-winning ideas being tossed back and forth, juggled, improved and worked upon. Imagine a marathon of the mind. Welcome to cmbHack.js.

34 hours to code!

Cmbhack.js brings together enthusiastic Javascript wizards on projects entirely of their own. Cmbhack.js is open to both students and professional developers - in the space of 34 hours, you will:

  • Pitch your latest and greatest ideas to your fellow participants. You have 30 seconds to grab their attention, so be prepared.

  • Meet, recruit and join like-minded Javascript geeks into making that idea a reality, right then and there

  • Hack away! Internet, meals and tech support will be provided. The best implementations will be judged and only the best will make it to the top!

Why Javascript?

Javascript is everywhere. It’s the tour-de-force of the Internet. It’s also one of the fastest-growing specializations in the tech industry. Show us what you can do.

Who is it for?

  • Developers, students and tinkerers who love to code!
  • UX designers with great CSS / HTML skills
  • PHP, Python, Ruby developers with JS skills
  • Android and iOS gurus who believe in JavaScript on the Mobile

Why should I come?

  • Because you love to work on great ideas with others
  • Because you love to code/hack and be around people who are just like you.
  • Because you will have the opportunity to talk about your ideas and show your work in JS in front of an audience who knows exactly what you are talking about.

What do I need to bring?

  • A laptop
  • An internet dongle is recommended
  • Pen and paper
  • A toothbrush for overnight hacking
  • Bring Rs. 500 for registration

Internet access, power, food and drinks are at your disposal.

What comes out

We expect to see some awesome JavaScript in action. Here are some areas you can consider:

  • A single page web application/mobile application built on JS or uses heavy JS
  • A JS framework that can be used by JS/Web developers
  • A JS-based mashup of other apps/APIs/tools/services
  • A server side JS API/package for web developers
  • Anything awesome that challenges JavaScript as a technology!

KO Train

“How many of you travel by train? If you want to travel from point A to B and if the track exists, train’s technically the easiest way. Unfortunately, we have problems.” The KO TRAIN team takes up the stage. “There’s an app by ICTA for all the train schedules, with over 100,000 downloads. The problem is, it’s not updated and nor does it account for delay.

Why we are organizing cmbHack.js?

  • To bring together talented JS geeks and expose their skills to the world
  • To create, promote and develop synergy and understanding within the local JS community
  • To help bring out great ideas and projects

Our initiatives

JavaScript Sri Lanka originally started as the NodeJS Fan Group for Sri Lanka followed by the NodeJS talk presented at the Refresh Colombo by Arunoda Susiripala in 2011. It was just an online group and we used it to share resources and ask questions specifically related to NodeJS.

Things got dramatically changed in mid 2013 as we started working on the first meetup. A lot of people found our group and got registered on Facebook. Most of them were interested on JavaScript in general, not just NodeJS. So we named the group JavaScript Sri Lanka.

Right now JavaScript Sri Lanka is driven by the community, voluntarily. Most of our discussions are scattered through our Facebook Group, but we also have a sound presence in the Meetup.

We are also hosting a bi-monthly meetup: JavaScript Sri Lanka where we meet and disucss about JavaScript and the related technologies. Our meetup is bit different from others, since we welcome discussions and experimenting new things. CMBHack.JS is the one of such experiments we are proud of.
